このA-2は、軍に計5回もの納入を果たしたラフウエア社が2度目に納入した言わばセカンドモデルにあたる。大型の襟と前立てを無視した左右対称の身頃を持つ型紙を強引に前立てにしてしまうなど、この頃から同社の特徴がジャケットに現れている。当時生産された実物には調達の都合からか、ゴートスキンの革を使用したラセットブラウンであったが、ワイルドなフォルムを持つラフウェア社のA-2にはやはり野生馬の革が良く似合う。革はイタリア産の原皮を植物の樹皮から抽出した渋液で数ヶ月に渡って丹念に鞣した後、ピグメントを用いた手法で仕上げられている。赤茶色の塗料に封印された馬革は膨張と伸縮を繰り返し、本来の野生馬だった表情が露わになる。

This A-2 is the second model made by Rough Wear, which filled a total of five contracts for the military. The company’s distinctive features began to appear in its jackets at this time, such as the large collar and the symmetrical body that disregarded the placket, forcing the pattern to be made into a placket. Although the actual jacket produced at the time was made of russet brown goatskin, mustang hide is compatible for the wild form of Rough Wear’s A-2. The leather is made from Italian raw hides that are carefully tanned over a period of several months with an astringent fluid extracted from the bark of trees and then finished with a pigment dye. The horsehide, sealed in reddish brown coloring, expands and contracts repeatedly, revealing the mustang’s original appearance.
